Made with love

This one's for my dear Sis who's been missing her lovely Christa so! I made the pattern myself, with some inspiration from wee wonderfuls' pointy kitty and loobylu's sausage dogs. I admit her ears remind me of Dumbo's, but I think she's adorable this way.

I was watching a show on Animal Planet the other day about some special goats that goes so stiff when they're scared or surprised that they'd actually fall over. It was so funny! Here's mini Christa playing pretend... :)

I hope this will bring a smile on my lovely Sis' face. Don't tell her yet, though.. it'll be her Christmas present, and I hope a pleasant surprise as well.

Swarm bots!

Ever since I read Michael Crichton's novel "Prey" about nanobot swarms four years ago, I've been fascinated by the idea that programmed 'agents' can work together and build collective intelligence just like the amazing termite colonies. I even wanted to do my NUS honors year project on swarm simulations! I ended up switching to real-time simulation of dynamic clouds, but look at what these guys managed to do with their cute little bots! It's amazing. :)

The robots were developed by Marco Dorigo at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, along with colleagues at the Institute of Cognitive Science and Technology in Italy and the Autonomous Systems Laboratory and Dalle Molle Institute for the Study of Artificial Intelligence, both in Switzerland.

Body builders: a word of caution from the dung beetles?

Dung beetle research may be about to boost the cliché about men with flashy sports cars. According to new study, male beetles with the most dramatic and ostentatious sets of horns apparently pay for that with smaller testicles...

Things u can learn from ur dog

When loved ones come, always run to greet them.
Run, romp, and play daily. Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
No matter how often you are criticized, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout.
Run right back and make friends.

Super chocolatey chocolate muffin

I had the sweetest dream last night! I was invited to a promotional all-you-can-eat-and-stay-as-long-as-you-like session at a chic new bakery in a futuristic luxury mall in a city I've never seen before. There were lots of beautiful little fountains surrounded by black granite tiles.

So I went to the bakery and saw this huge selection of yummy treats!!! Should I try the apple pie first, or the cheesecake? YUM~~~~~ my favourite was the super dark chocolate muffin; I can still taste the wonderful bittersweet sensation after I woke up in the morning. Well... almost, anyway.

Moral of the story: if your product is GREAT, marketing is easy~~ word-of-mouth comes naturally! I was telling everybody about the superb bakery shop after a taste of the chocolatey chocolate muffin, even in my dreams.

Call me crazy, but that is one sweet dream I sure love to have more of! :)

indecision --> worry

Worry is a state of mind. It's a form of sustained fear caused by indecision. Any state of mind can be controlled. Decide that nothing which life has to offer is worth the price of worry. With this decision will come poise, peace of mind, and calmness of thought... .

-- (again) adapted from Napolen Hill's "Think and grow rich"

Definitely something to chew on. Now I need to read "Only the paranoid will survive", just to see how they both can make sense... if they can. :D

yet another one on love

One who loves truly can never lose entirely

Memories of love never pass. They linger, guide, and influence long after the source of stimulation has faded. There is nothing new in this. Every person who has been moved by genuine love knows that it leaves enduring traces upon the human heart. The effect of love endures, because love is spiritual in nature. The man who cannot be stimulated to great heights of achievement by love, is hopeles -- he is dead, though he may seem to live.

Go back into your yesterdays, at times, and bathe your mind in the beautiful memories of past love. It will soften the influence of present worries and annoyances. It will give you a source of escape from the unpleasant realities of life, and maybe -- who knows? -- your mind will yield to you, during this temporary retreat into the world of fantasy, ideas, or plans which may change the entire financial or spiritual status of your life.

If you believe yourself unfortunate because you have loved and lost, perish the thought. One who has loved truly, can never lose entirely. Love is whimsical and temperamental. It comes when it pleases, and goes away without warning. Accept and enjoy it while it remains, but spend no time worrying about its departure. Worry will never bring it back.

...

Love is, without question, life's greatest experience.

One of the good ones

Forwarded by Cozy.

Five simple rules to be happy:
1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

The measure of love is when you love without measure. In life there are very rare chances that you'll meet the person you love and loves you in return.
So once you have it don't ever let go, the chance might never come your way again.

It's better to lose your pride to the one you love, than to lose the one you love because of pride.

We spend too much time looking for the right person to love or finding fault with those we already love, when instead we should be perfecting the love we give.

When you truly care for someone, you don't look for faults, you don't look for answers, you don't look for mistakes. Instead, you fight the mistakes, you accept the faults, and you overlook the excuses.

Never abandon an old friend. You will never find one who can take his place. Friendship is like wine, it gets better as it grows older.

Just like a good shepherd...

Good design should anticipate, constrain or prevent users from actions that will lead them to errors.

Checks need to be made to inform users early on to prevent such occurences.

New perspective: Social Intelligence

Ideas by Karl Albrecht:

Social intelligence - The ability to get along well with others and to get them to cooperate with you

Toxic behavior: making others feel
- devalued
- inadequate
- angry
- frustrated
- guilty

Nourishing behavior: making others feel
- valued
- capable
- respected
- appreciated
- positive

What impact do you have on others?
