Some wise guy said...

9 Ways of Marrying The Wrong Person
by Rabbi Dov Heller, M.A.
1. You pick the wrong person because you expect him/her to change after you're married. The classic mistake: Never marry potential. The golden rule is, if you can't be happy with the person the way he or she is now, don't get married. As a colleague of mine so wisely put it, "You actually can expect people to change after they're married... for the worst!" So when it comes to the other person's spirituality, character, personal hygiene, communication skills, and personal habits, make sure you can live with these as they are now.

2. You pick the wrong person because you focus more on chemistry than on character. Chemistry ignites the fire, but good character keeps it burning. Beware of the "I! 'm in love" syndrome. "I'm in love" often means, "I'm in lust." Attraction is there, but have you carefully checked out this person's character? Here are four character traits to definitely check for:
Humility: Does this person believe that "doing the right thing" is more important than personal comfort? Do I want to be more like this person? Would I like my child to turn out like him or her?
Kindness: Does this person enjoy giving pleasure to other people? How does s/he treat people s/he doesn't have to be nice to? Does s/he do volunteer work? Give charity?
Responsibility: Can I depend on this person to do what s/he says s/he's going to do?
Happiness: Does this person like himself? Does s/he enjoy life? Is s/he emotionally stable? Ask yourself: Do I want to be more like this person? Do I want to have a child with this person? Would I like my child to turn out like him or her?

3. You pick the wrong person because the man doesn't understand what a woman needs most. Men and women have unique emotional needs, and more often than not, it is the man who just doesn't "get it." Jewish tradition places the onus on the man to understand the emotional needs of a woman and to satisfy them. The unique need of a woman is to be loved -- to feel that she is the most important person in her husband's life. The husband needs to give her consistent, quality attention. This is most apparent in Judaism's approach to sexual intimacy. The Torah obligates the husband to meet the sexual needs of his wife. Sexual intimacy is always on the woman's terms. Men are goal-oriented, especially when it comes to this area. As a wise woman once pointed out, "Men have two speeds: on and off." Women are experience-oriented. When a man is able to switch gears and become more experience-oriented, he will discover what makes his wife very happy. When the man forgets about his own needs and focuses on giving his wife pleasure, amazing things happen.

4. You choose the wrong person because you do not share a common life goals and priorities. There are three basic ways we connect with another person:
-chemistry and compatibility
-share common interests
-share common life goal
Make sure you share the deeper level of connection that sharing life goals provide. After marriage, the two of you will either grow together or grow apart. To avoid growing apart, you must figure out what you're "living for," while you're single -- and then find someone who has come to the same conclusion as you. This is the true definition of a "soul mate." A soul mate is a goal mate -- two people who ultimately share the same understanding of life's purpose and therefore share the same priorities, values and goals.

5. You pick the wrong person because you do not have a deeper emotional connection with this person. To evaluate whether you have a deeper emotional connection or not, ask: "Do I respect and admire this person?" This does not mean, "Am I impressed by this person?" We are impressed by a Mercedes. We do not respect someone because they own a Mercedes. You should be impressed by qualities of creativity, loyalty, determination, etc.
Also ask:
"Do I trust this person?" This also means, "Is he/she emotionally stable? Do I feel I can rely on him/her?

6. You pick the wrong person because you choose someo! ne with whom you don't feel emotionally safe. Ask yourself the following questions: Do I feel calm, peaceful and relaxed with this person? Can I fully express myself with this person? Does this person make me feel good about myself? Do you have a really close friend who does make you feel this way? Make sure the person you marry makes you feel the same way! Are you afraid of this person in any way? You should not feel you need to monitor what you say because you are afraid of how the other person will view it. If you're afraid to express your feelings and opinions openly, there's a problem with the relationship.
Be on the look out for someone who is always trying to change you. Another aspect of feeling safe is that you don't feel the other person is trying to control you. Controlling behaviors are a sign of an abusive person. Be on the look out for someone who is always trying to change you. There's a big difference between "controlling" and "making suggestions." A suggestion is made for your benefit; a control statement is made for their benefit.

7. You pick the wrong person because you don't put everything on the table. Anything that bothers you about the relationship must be brought up for discussion. Bringing up the uncomfortable stuff is the only way. To evaluate how well the two of you communicate, negotiate, and work together. Over the course of a lifetime, difficulties will inevitably arise. You need to know now, before making a commitment: Can you resolve your differences and find compromises that work for both of you? Never be afraid to let the person know what bothers you. This is also a way for you to test how vulnerable you can be with this person. If you can't be vulnerable, then you can't be intimate. The two go hand in hand.

8. You pick the wrong person because you use the relationship to escape from personal problems and unhappiness. If you are unhappy and single, you'll probably be unhappy and married, too. Marriage does not fix personal, psychological and emotional problems. If anything, marriage will exacerbate them. If you are not happy with yourself and your life, take responsibility to fix it now while you are single. You'll feel better, and your future spouse will thank you.

9. You pick the wrong person because he/she is involved in a triangle. To be "triangulated" means a person is emotionally dependent on someone
or something else while trying to develop another relationship. A person who hasn't separated from his or her parents is the classic example of triangulation. People can also be triangulated with things as well, such as work, drugs, Internet, hobbies, sports or money. Be careful that you and your partner are free of triangles. The person caught in the triangle cannot be fully emotionally available to you. You will not be their number one priority. And that's no basis for a marriage.

Remind remind remind me to~~~

Talk half as much — LISTEN!
Ask questions — instead of barking directives
Power Up — in every conversation, leave the other party more energized
Support if you can't persuade
Never insult — even in the privacy of your own mind
Never lose your cool, ever!
Never lie or mislead
Apologize — if you even just have an inkling that you should — it is a sign of your humanity
Assume positive intent

No competition implies no market

Heard today:

For pragmatists, competition is a fundamental condition for purchase.

Which is kinda true. When was the last time you made any major purchase decision without first comparing the product/service with its competitor(s)?? Let me guess: never.

You have 12 identical coins,

and one of them is fake. The fake could be either heavier or lighter than the others, you don't know. Could you find out which one is fake just with 3 tries on the balance scale?

Got this brain-teaser from Advait, who heard it from Brandon. Baby solved it in half an hour!!! My kids'd better be smart.

Up, up, and away~~~~

Ever wondered how it feels like shooting up to the sky? Try the reverse bungee next to the Singapore river!! Feng, Ramees, and I did that last Sat nite. Was definitely an amazing feeling up there!! \(^o^)/ Easily the best ride of my life.

Was good catching up with old SV folks ZZ, Vivian, JJ, ZW, and LQ over dinner n drinks. Was actually a crazy weekend full of catching up with old friends and then some. One old high school friend came here for the first time and was so full of energy he visited in two days more than what baby did in like 5 years. So yes, I went to the Jurong bird park for the 2nd time this year.. and almost made a 3rd visit to the night safari!! Haha~~ entertaining can be exhausting I guess, but at least I got good company.

Fixed yet another crash today. Ah~~ such is the life of a coderwoman. Success is never sweeter than when you gotta work ur little brain day n night to get it. Day yes, but night?? Haha... I was still tracing some code when I woke up this morning! **yawn** Time to bed again. Let's dream of space tourism this time... mmmm.

Scratch!!

We ate a bunch of unusual foods last Saturday and now my back's so itchy!! Baby's got it all over his arms, poor monkey. Was it the jellyfish?? The green tea cocktail?? Whatever~~ but man, I really didn't expect the allergy to last that long... it's been like two whole days!! ......(-_-)......

Maybe it's the AOE.. I think we overdosed on that alright. Heehee.

~Tomorrow's my first tennis lesson. When do you think i'll be a champion? 'Tis sooner every second... muahahhahaha.

Where is the banana?

Q: Where is the banana?
A: What banana?

Lesson: If you don't understand the question, answer with another question.

Many girls like to marry a military man - he can cook, sew, and make beds and is in good health, and he's already used to taking orders.

Peace

... comes from within, when your heart is calm. I'm savouring every bit of it now, listening to good ole' Andre Hehanusa's "Karena Kutahu Engkau Begitu" in my quiet little room, with my hair tucked in a fluffy towel, stepping out of a steamy hot shower (best for tired eyes!). All I need now is a dollop of Satsuma.. mmm.

Doggie Days

I seem to keep bumping into lovely babies this week! One day on the way to lunch in Tiong Bahru Plaza, we saw a pair of what looks like Old English Sheepdogs resting happily on the ground floor beside their human. One of them actually walked over to me and silently asked for a pat!! wahahahaha~~~~ that was **so** sweet. They were huge and so huggable with their long fluffy coat. It must be pretty hot in it though. The owner guy told me he got one of them locally, and the other from a breeder in Aussie. I wonder where those breeders are in Singapore... would love to visit one one day. Would love to be one, actually... one day, hahahaha.

Yesterday morning on the way to work, an 11-month Golden Retriever called me over to play with her too. She was all thrilled when I went over and so was I! Her owner was a guy in his late 20s; I wonder why he wasn't on his way to work like everyone else that morning. Anyway silly me ended up missing the bus... which passed by when I was busy assessing a very noticeable spot of doggie-saliva on my jeans. (Eeek, I know, but luckily u can't see it when it's dry.. haha!! Just that I came to work with doggie smell, I guess. Yes.. eeek, but well, it's worth it~~)

I **so** want a dog!! But I'm so not gonna get one. Not after what happenned to my dear beloved Austin von Ieller.

The Doc lady said, "They're so small, dear girl~" so she tried using a tiny needle to draw my precious........ not a good idea! "Ai~ why ur blood so thick ah girl~~~ I have to change a bigger needle now..." Aaaa~~~~~~~~ and so now each of my arms has a lovely purple dot on that favourite spot.

Love love love.... I luv flychess n bejewelled! hahahaha~~~ old habits die hard... nite nitezzz!! Sweet days ahead :)

Ya yayayayayaya!!

That's wat he likes to say when excited in a happy mood... hahahaha.

Friday nite brought good ole' friends together for dinner n karaoke. Some awful singers there especially yours truly.. hahahhaha. We definitely proved that you don't have to be good to have some fun!

Sat nite was wonderfully romantic right after the party ended. Baby n I walked along Sg river n around Esplanade n had a pretty good chat about so many different topics (i.e. nothing)... revisiting lotsa sweet memories n imagining some crazy philosophical stuff on the future of humankind. It was a rare ocassion indeed, considering his default reaction to any kind of philosophical talk is a big fake yawn... hahahahaha

Oh yeah we had a dinner n dance before that, although nobody danced in the end... people marched away in droves as soon as the last lucky draw winner was announced!! What a sorry sight for the organisers n MC... hahahaha.. speaking of which, Justin was really good!!! It's the first time I've ever sat for more than 4 hrs for dinner n not long for dessert and the way out. He was such a good entertainer who engaged the audience so much that lotsa people actually forgot to eat. I'm not kidding!! :D

Sunday's ok; I decided it was time to (finally!) make the cooling orange jelly from the powder I bought months ago. I kept sneezing the whole day n really hope that no virus of any kind found its way from me to the jelly... heeeheeehheeee~~~~~~ no no dun tell baby; he'd just gulped the last piece! haha... let everyone have the sweet dreams they deserve tonite, ok? :)

Monday is coming... chaaaargeeee!!!!

super productive weekend :D

Yay~~~!!!

Juz did some work for dad's inventory system. Feeling surprisingly good these days.. maybe juz coz of how much good stuff I did this weekend?! Heehee~~~

Yah, yesterday was Avril Lavigne's concert in the Sg indoor stadium. It was good to see her life although the concert experience reached only like 85% of my expectations. Maybe we shd've gotten standing tickets?? And there were so many little kids around!! Gah~~ =O ~~ heheee... anyways, the nite itself was good esp coz I got to know mr M better i guess.. was fun talkin to him about pretty much everything.. :). Plus, I could tell baby was missing me the whole nite from the look on his face... wahahahaha... sweet baby =p

Spent an hour Saturday afternoon proof-reading my friend's really good hyp report, n some time later reassuring her that it is really good! hehee.. I know how it feels juz days from the presentation; was worried whether I could make it too last time~~ but all will be well, girl!! :)

Went to the dentist to check baby's teeth today.. a little piece fell out the other day after some heavy snacking. We thought it would be a just quick little fix, but he ended up filling 3 different holes instead!! Baby came out with a hurt-bunny look... haha~~~ so cute.

Spent some time on the phone with Mom today; the new printer seems to be giving her lotsa trouble at home. It's amazing how good she is with sms n msn though!! :)

Tried the new aerobics video today. Ouch!! My tummy's all tough now... or not, hahaha~~~

Sweet dreams! :)

Monday Oranges~~

Err... just to not say blues.. :p

I'm fighting the flu now and 've been feeling sleepy the w..h..o..l..e.. day.... and everything seems to move so s..l..o..w.. especially my reaction and anything that requires using my brain!! :s The only thing that kept me excited was to think of going to c Avril Lavigne life this Sat... hahahaHAHAHA. :D and so nice of mr M to go with me :) If only the happy zoo bunch would go too!!

Happy thoughts... happy thoughts.... mmm let me remember Friday nite's loud party in mr K's place, felt so nice to be in such good company! Met lady R, a very nice n pretty nus friend I haven't seen for like 4 yrs~~ haha... small world, small world. Also met my ex-senior from KE7, a babe with sexy dance moves.. :) thinking of dancing, i'm pretty sure everyone had a wonderful time dancing (or watching :D) life indian dance that nite. Mr K's sound system was damn powerful too, lucky for us his neighbours didn't call the cops.. ahhahaha

Saturday me n baby had a really long talk. It was good for us and all's well that ends well I guess. Baby's been askin me to fix him a screwdriver almost daily ever since I bought the 1.9L tropicana. Shd I be worried? But then orange juice is good for you, right? and absolut mandrin fills only a fraction of the cup.. haha~~ trying to rationalize things here.

Ahh... who wants to see the ramblings of a half-sleeping dreamer. I'm off to bed..... to bed, for now :)

I want a greyhound to hug me sleep!! haha~~

Space

Kahlil Gibran, "The Prophet" : On Marriage

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.

Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together, yet not too near together:

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.

coders' nite out

Went out for dinner and drinks at holland V with some colleagues today. It was fun! Some of them are jokers to the core, but some are juz plain funny!! One PRC guy was trying to decide what drinks to order and he looked at the menu carefully... and said earnestly, "what's this? Cocktails are not Tequila??" We all looked at the page and saw the heading:

Cocktails ~ Tequila

Duh! Too much coding, dude.. wahahaha~~~~ :D

Well one of the reasons i joined the company is coz of the people. So far I've found every single one of 'em really smart, motivated, and bursting with some sort of energy and ability to make things happen. Plus most of them are sincere, nice n friendly. I think i've found a winning team~~ for now :)

Nothing better than a long hot bubble bath after a full day's activity! My current favourite: gorgeous grapefruit bath bubbles from the body shop. :)

Today the bath; tomorrow the world!!

shopping, shopping \(^o^)/

Finally found the cute little pair I've been looking for!! They're made of thin leather in light brown and mmm very, very comfortable.. ha ha ha ha ha~~~ yay!! Now I need to find the pants to match them... hmm.

Also got a sweetie red slim n tiny handbag with a bold buckle in the front. It should match some of my top reddies!!

It's really tough getting anything with baby around coz he's really, really picky!! :p So today's really been a lucky day; he even found himself a cool n funky shirt 'to go clubbing'... heehee.

A very pleasant day indeed. :) Nite nitezzz~~

Robots

Funny! Simple plot, but pretty witty script. Enough to condition the mind for sweet dreams.... sweet dreams! :)

Sweet Saturday

We went kayaking yesterday!! Was at the 'Love is all around' carnival at Big Splash, thanks to baby's boss' generous invitation to his Church event. We got $40 worth of coupons for free, and spent it on tasty treats and fresh juices, fun games with cute prizes, a breezy Bali-style casual dress for me and 2 lush potted plants to keep XiaoHua company!! Yay~~ :)

Then we spotted various groups of people carrying kayaks across the beach and thought hey, we should try that too!! It was totally awesome kayaking with baby, although the sea reminded me of the movie about two tourists who went scuba-diving and got left behind at sea and got eaten by sharks... eeeh. Also flashed in my memory was images from the movie Frankenfish, not to mention the recent tsunami tragedy. But at one point we stopped paddling and just floated there quietly, me lying on my back and enjoying the gentle afternoon sun, baby trying to swim around the kayak with his life-jacket on :D (and soon finding it just a little tricky to climb back up without capsizing us both... haha). The breeze was nice n cooling, the sound of the sea hypnotic, I felt just so comfortably numb, and so lucky~~ aww.

Hava great Sunday! :)

Wild Friday

I think it was the first time I had a Sangria at Harry's and it was definitely refreshing. Eddy made us a bittersweet Lychee Bellini and that got me happy alright... haha. Kura, Hippo n I then went over to this bowling place (forgot what it was called) where we joined Ata, Widya, Vivi, Herry, n baby-faced Joe. Now think twice before challenging Widya coz girl, she's good!! :D

Next time you use the toilet,

watch before you sit down...

ST. PETERSBURG - It was almost 9 a.m. Tuesday and Shannon Scavotto already was running late for work when he opened the toilet to throw out a tissue.

Inside was a snake as thick as a child's wrist, its diamond-shaped head sticking 10 inches out of the toilet.

Scavotto, 30, grabbed his camera phone to call someone, then snapped a few shots of the snake with the tissue paper on its head...

Scavotto called his boss to tell him he'd be late because he'd had to wrestle a snake out of his toilet. His boss joked he would need a better excuse than that.

Scavotto told him he'd bring it in so he could see it.

And he did. His wife wouldn't let him keep it at the house, anyway...

The city's public utilities department could not be reached to comment on the regularity of such an event.

But it has happened elsewhere.

In Fort Worth, Texas, a 6-foot black water snake came out of a toilet before animal control workers arrived and moved it to a nearby lake.

Last year, a python turned up in the toilet bowl of a home in Barcelona, Spain, and an iguana climbed up the sewer pipes of a home in Sarasota and got stuck in the toilet bowel.

And in 1993 in Atlanta, a woman sat down on the toilet only to be scratched by a squirrel that had somehow arrived from the sewer...

Full Story from the St. Petersburg Times Online! :D

What would you do if that were you?? \(^o^)/

nice little treat

"B-but, they insisted on following me home!" :p

Escape weekend

Ha ha!! Yesterday turned out to be a sweet long date in Escape theme park, downtown east.. :D:D:D I got to see baby's knuckles turn white from clutching the safety bar on the Viking ride (like Kora2 in Dufan!)!!! hahahahahhaa that was *so* cute~~~

My fave ride was definitely the indoor roller coaster with super-sharp >90 degree turns that almost sent us flying off the car at four stories high!!! And then there's the 3D revolution thingie, that was really cool \(^o^)/. The worst ride was one silly construction with many airplane-like flats that we had to lie on, face-down. And then it did nothing but turns around and around for like forever... it almost made me sick!! The only good thing was that the strong breeze dried us up from the wet&wild ride we took earlier :D (baby: "Hey look! they have wet and WILO!!")

On the way home we went to SimLim to pick up an all-in-one printer, but came home empty handed in the end. Oh well, better luck next time. Enough fun for the day~~~ happy Sunday to you! :)

It's confirmed!

And I miss my sister so... :p

She's only gone one day and already I miss her chirpy stories and explosive laughter. And to think i might've started working by the time she comes back here next week, aww~~~ am i such a baby after all?

My Values

Just had an interview with my future CEO, and now contemplating my personal values. What are they? I wrote these for my GEM Strategic Thinking Paper two years ago:

Integrity: a powerful compass that empowers your heart and conscience
Responsibility: leads to proactivity and effectiveness
Optimism: gives you strength and enthusiasm
Trust: builds lasting, fruitful relationships
Humor: rejuvenates the heart and mind
Faith: nourishes the soul, and brings you down to earth

I think they're still it. :)

YOUTH

Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind; it is not a matter of rosy cheeks, red lips and supple knees; it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.

Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity, of the appetite for adventure over the love of ease. This often exists in a man of 60 more than a boy of 20. Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals.

Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spring back to dust.

Whether 60 or 16, there is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young.

When the aerials are down, and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old, even at 20, but as long as your aerials are up, to catch waves of optimism, there is hope you may die young at 80.

(author unknown)

"the longing"

Quick Dash of an Entry in this Crazy World

We are up to our necks with 1001 different seeds and nuts I've
never seen before in my life and am constantly urged to eat more of by his dad!!! (they taste pretty good luckily :D) Baby's parents have
brought 2 suitcases here, which consists of at least 1.5 cases full of all sorts of food. Preserved meats, prawns, flower tea, raisins, nuts,
peach seeds, 'a bigger kind of peach' seeds, macadamia, preserved
apple/peach, etc. etc. you get the idea and I'm not joking!!! I can
swim in all the food now and our fridge is totally stuffed right to
the corners and most unreachable compartments of the fridge door!!! haha~~~ ok gtg back to munching..........

A Day of Indulgence

First we had a nice long Sakae buffet in Suntec City (Firefly, Kura n me). I mean we stayed there for more than a coupla hours I think, and would've stayed longer if only there were some tiny space left in our tummies to tuck in another temaki or gyoza or even the delicious ice-cream-filled-peach-flavoured-mochi! :D

Then we went off to meet cute little 'Ayam Asle' (heeheehee sorry babe was lookin for a nice nick for u here but I couldn't help thinking of this one since Kura told the story~~), and off we go to do some serious shopping!

Which consists of me finding a striking red shirt which fit surprisingly nicely even before I found something for baby's CNY present (why is it so much easier to find girl's stuff than guys' ?!?), *somebody* trying unsuccessfully to return a Topgun men's underwear for a bigger size, and our cute little friend buying her much anticipated sheer-dark-red-modified-Cheongsam-top after some 'gentle' persuasion by us faithful friends! \(^o^)/

The ultimate purchase is definitely the four air tickets to Jakarta which baby n I confirmed on Zuji just minutes ago... yay yay!! A day of indulgence indeed~~~

Sweet dreams folks! :)

Pleasant Surprise

So I went to pick up my transcript from NUS RO today. Then I decided to scan them, spice up my resume, do the online tests requested by the Spherion lady, and send her everything for my application to the mysterious 2-yr-startup-and-listing-for-ipo company. By the time I'd finished scanning n zipping through all three tests on OOP, Java 2, and Servlets, it was past dinner time! Whoa.. time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like a banana... (quote from David McKinnon who taught me Cosmology five years ago, and inspired my major project on 'Time').

So I called baby to see if we can have dinner together, but he was too busy playing ping-pong with his happy folks at work. Ai~~~

So I thought I'd give myself a treat and catch a cab to Westmall for some fresh salmon sashimi and green tea ice-cream in Sakae, but when I was about to jump into a cab, I noticed an older Indian couple standing slightly behind me and lookin at me expectantly... aai.

So I let them have the cab, and sauntered to NUH instead. It was like 8 p.m. and everyone I could think of had already had dinner. Looks like it's gonnabe a lonely meal tonite...

But lo and behold! Just as I was about to decide between Dili's Western Food and the Yong Tau Foo in Kopitiam, I caught a friendly smile on an equally friendly face... flash! Bam! Alakazam... it's my dear Logics tutor from last semester and his sweet girlfriend. What good luck! Together they are among the best and most helpful seniors I know in NUS.. not to mention the cutest couple (one tall and cool, the other petite and chirpy, and both pretty good-looking :D), who's kind enough to invite me to their table for dinner. Yay~~ goodbye to lonely meal.

So we chatted almost endlessly about the struggle towards an NUS PhD (for them), prospects of post-grad studies in Europe vs U.S. (for me), living costs n standards n the culture of people there vs here (they're from Romania btw).
She: "In Europe, people are generally more relaxed."
He: "There's a lot more pressure in Singapore."
Me: "But the Singapore lifestyle cannot be generalised to the whole of Asia..."
She: "Yeah even in Malaysia, the pace is very different..."
He: "Yeah but in Malaysia, you're stressed about other things, like the safety of your wallet..."
All: hahahahha~~

I wanna go to Europe! Even if it takes me ten years, I'm gonna stay in one of those mountainous countries (maybe Switzerland!) for at least six months. Studying, holidaying, working, who knows... let's see how it goes :)

Oh Dear!

...my lovable namesake...

intellectual capital:

[a company's] patents and processes, management skills, technologies, and accumulated knowledge of customers, suppliers, and business practices.

The sum of what everybody in a company knows and knows how to do gives a company much of its competitive edge - if it's mobilized well.

blink

"The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" by Malcolm Gladwell. It's an amazing read full of intriguing anecdotes and interesting lessons!

"... buried among the things that we hate is a class of products that are in that category only because they are weird. They make us nervous. They are sufficiently different that it takes us some time to understand that we actually like them..." ~ I think the same applies to people as well. It's so easy to give or get the wrong first impression!

Ooh, try the spooky Implicit Association Test and find out your unconscious bias!

A new beginning

Yewhew~~~ I'll be on my way back to baby tonite! :) Wat a hectic day getting ready for the trip and putting everything else in place. Dad's website is almost ready now.. hope we could keep the momentum right to the finish line though.

I wonder how life would be now that school's over. Still think that wherever I am and whatever I do, the happiest moments are always those spent carefree with family n friends. Fame, status, and shining careers feed only one's vanity.. alas, they breed lies, schemes and politics. But when thoughts and action stem from goodwill and a strong desire to improve our surroundings, life gets a whole new meaning!
